Who Did That Music?
Now that you have listened to episodes of The Unexpected Mentor, you have one question that nags at your brain and must be answered: “WHO DID THAT MUSIC?”
As you no doubt heard my deep, authoritative voice declaring The Unexpected mentor to be AI-free, and good to my word, I approached a local composer, multi-instrumentalist, and all-around major musical talent to compose and record our theme. His name may be familiar to some of you:
Dillon Vado.
If you ever came to the SLG Publishing booth at Comic-Con from about 2005-2006, you no doubt encountered Dillon trying to upsell you a t-shirt. He was a genius at it, all business and on task. Dillon, if you have not figured it out, is my son, and after a couple of years at a community college, he gave me a polite middle finger and went to a private music school instead of the state college that I wanted him to go and was willing to pay for. He is a musical genius, one of the few things in our family I do not take credit for.
So, of course, when Emily and I were working on this podcast and realized that we would need some music for this and with our stated goal of keeping it free of AI-generated anything, I yelled out in my aggressive tone designed to bring all discussion to a halt, “I GOT THIS!”
So, next thing you know, I am messaging Dillon. I asked him if he would do the music for The Unexpected Mentor, although to be honest, there was no real ask as saying no was never going to be an option. I even had my standard “DON’T MAKE ME REGRET NOT PULLING OUT” retort loaded up and ready to fly.
I also asked (told) him he would need to do it for free, but not to worry, because it would be good exposure! Thankfully, he agreed to do it anyway. The resulting music is a cool, mood-setting piece that sounds great as our theme and even better without my yattering over it.
So, in the interests of giving my boy the exposure he is due I am going to ask/tell you all to give his band Heart Matter a little love on PATREON by clicking here then choosing a big ass tier.
You can listen to the music by itself here.
