ABOUT US
DAN VADO
Dan’s desired life goals of being a professional layabout and part-time man-about-town were interrupted by a nearly 40-year career in comic book publishing. Founding his comic book company, SLG Publishing in 1986, Dan went on to publish many eclectic and idiosyncratic titles such as Johnny the Homicidal Maniac by Jhonen Vasquez, Lenore by Roman Dirge, and a host of other creators and titles which are too numerous to mention. In addition to his publishing work, Dan briefly wrote for DC Comics, most notably producing a thankfully-forgotten-until-someone-decided-to-reprint-it run of Justice League comics at the same time as being one of the first writers published by DC Comics with a creator-owned contract with his series (with Norman Felchle), The Griffin.
Frequently travelling the path of most resistance , Dan currently can be found ambling through the halls of his music venue, The Art Boutiki Music Hall, and can often be heard shouting “DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM!” at anyone who will listen. One person who did listen is Emily Parent and Dan is eternally grateful she was not yet carrying mace when they met.
EMILY PARENT
Emily Parent has never once, in her entire life, let anyone tell her what to do — so much so that she’s entirely unfit for a loveless nine-to five relationship with the corporate entities that Silicon Valley has to offer. Sadly, she seems to thrive only in environments that allow her to undergo manic, messy fits of creative productivity that typically scares most sensible people off. Emily is truly very lucky to have met Dan Vado, who not only tolerates the acquired taste of her creative vision but actually seems to possess an intuitive aptitude for pointing her in the right direction and letting her sprint until she runs out of battery.
It was through sheer stubbornness through which Emily acquired a degree in English & Creative Writing from Emory University and, after a brief and confusing encounter with the world of marketing and communications, launched a small creative business as a podcast producer and social media content strategist. In her 10+ years of producing podcasts, she’s helped create a handful of science and wellness-related podcasts including “Rebel Wellness”, Intel’s “Experiment Exchange”, and “Do It, I Dare You!”. Emily is also a certified yoga instructor and the author of a short collection of poetry and comics called Butterfly Net, which chronicles her hatred of capitalism and her various vendettas with people who looked at her funny when she was in college.
